Review of ESC 2010 - Semi Two (En/Es)

REVIEW OF THE SECOND SEMI FINAL OF ESC 2010.

It will take place on May 27^th in Telenor Arena in Oslo, NO. 21:00 CET / 15:00 -5 GMT (Bogotá’s time for the American fans) I think it’s the strongest one, because all the big fishes are on it! ;). As I did with the First Semi Final, I’m going to write a little description of each entry. The draw of presentation is the following:

01 LITHUANIA

INCULTO – EASTERN EUROPEAN FUNK

East European Funk: is an up-tempo blending various different music styles, both traditional ones and modern ones. The lyrics have officially been declared an "infectious, somewhat humorous commentary on the differences of Eastern and Western Europe". They can actually be considered a protest against the West overlooking and underestimating Lithuania and Eastern Europe in general.

I find it funny and original. They have made a good job, I like it but I can’t see it in the final, I don’t know why, but I’m sure of that! :/

East European Funk (funk de Europa del Este): es una canción moderna con mezcla de diferentes estilos musicales, tanto tradicionales como modernos. La letra ha sido declarada oficialmente como “contagiosa, con comentarios un tanto graciosos sobre la diferencia entre el Este y el Oeste de Europa”. Pueden ser consideradas como una protesta en contra la dominación y la subestima que tiene el Oeste con relación a Lituania y el Este de Europa en general.

La encuentro graciosa y original. Han hecho un buen trabajo, me gusta pero no la veo en la final, no sé por qué, pero estoy seguro de eso! :/

02 ARMENIA

EVA RIVAS – APRICOT STONE

Apricot stone: is a mid-tempo/up-tempo pop song with ethnic influences in the arrangement. Through the lyrics, the singer tells that she is longing for her home, when she realises how cruel the world can be. Her motherland is symbolised by an apricot stone, which was given to her by her mother, as the fruit is believed to be native in Armenia and has therefore become a symbol of the country.

The lyrics of this song are so beautiful and touching. It is possible Armenia will do it again, even though the semi is tough, there are so many songs that could beat it in the final accounting of votes.

Apricot stone (semilla de albaricoque): es una canción pop entre moderna y termino medio con influencias étnicas en su arreglo. A través de su letra, la cantante cuenta que ella extraña su hogar, cuándo ella se da cuenta de lo cruel que el mundo puede ser. Su país de nacimiento es simbolizado por la semilla de albaricoque, la cual fue dada a ella por su madre, ya se cree que la fruta es nativa de Armenia y por tanto se ha convertido en el símbolo del país.

La letra de la canción es muy hermosa y sentimental. Es posible que Armenia lo haga de nuevo, a pesar de que la semifinal está complicada, hay muy buenas canciones que podrían vencerla en el conteo final de los votos.

03 ISRAEL

HAREL SKAAT – MILIM

Milim (Words): is a classic ballad. Through the dramatic lyrics of the song, the singer mourns a separation.

Fycking love it! He has marvellous vocals, he literately eats the stage and I’m sure of the fact that he’ll be in top 5 both in second semi final and the Final itself.

Milim (palabras): Es una balada clásica. A través de su dramática letra, el cantante lamenta una separación.

¡Me fascina! Tiene una maravillosa voz, literalmente se come el escenario y estoy seguro del hecho que estará en el top 5 tanto de la segunda semifinal como de la misma final.

04 DENMARK

CHANÉE & N’EVERGREEN – IN A MOMENT LIKE THIS

In a moment like this is: a mid-tempo pop song. Through the lyrics of the break-up song, the two singers ask themselves what their former partner is doing at this very moment and what he/she has to do so they get back together.

I have to admit it’s one of my favourites this year, I like the presentation they did in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix, I felt in love with their well-done performance in that stage. I hope they made to the final and place top 10 at least.

In a moment like this (En un momento así): es una canción pop de corte medio. Su letra está basada en el rompimiento. Los dos cantantes se preguntas lo que sus ex parejas estarán haciendo en ese momento y lo que él/ella tiene que hacer para tenerlos de regreso.

Tengo que admitir que es una de mis favoritas este año, me gustó la presentación que hicieron en el Melodi Danés, me enamore de su muy bien hecha puesta en escena. Espero que ellos logren la final y se ubiquen al menos en el top 10.

05 SWITZERLAND

MICHAEL VON DER HEIDE – IL PLEUT DE L’OR

Il pleut de l'or (It rains gold) is an up-tempo pop song performed in French. The lyrics are a declaration of love using the metaphore of golden rain.

It’s a nice up-tempo song, one of the best from the second semi, but not my top 10 (sorry if I disappoint you) but I only like the rhythm it has, he, the singer has good vocals live what would help him to make the final if things goes well and let him do that impossible; reach the final.

Il pleut de l’or (llueve oro): es una canción moderna y cantada en francés. La letra es una declaración de amor usando como metáfora la lluvia de oro.

Es una muy buena canción moderna, una de las mejores de la segunda semifinal, pero no es mi top 10 (lo siento si los decepciono) pero lo único que me gusta es el ritmo que tiene, él, el cantante tiene muy buena voz en vivo lo que lo ayudaría llegar a la final si las cosas se le dan y lo dejan hacer lo imposible, pasar a la final.

06 SWEDEN

ANNA BERGENDAHL – THIS IS MY LIFE

This is my life: is a mid-tempo guitar pop ballad. Through the lyrics, the singer tells how she seizes her life and does not try to be someone else.

It’s the song I felt in love at the second time of listening after her performance in MF2010. It makes me feel so good with myself after listening to and also makes me to sing it, I extend my arms like she does in her performances including the closing eyes part from time to time when I listen to. It’s a beautiful song, and if you feel the same she wants to make you feel, you will love it too, I love her unusual voice and I hope this blondy reaches what Perrelli and Ernman did not, a top 10 in final!.

This is my life (Esta es mi vida): Es una balada pop acompañada por guitarra término medio (algo movida, pero suave al principio). A través de su letra, la cantante cuenta como ella vive su vida y no intenta ser como alguien más.

Es la canción de la que me enamoré a la segunda vez de escucharla después de su presentación en el MF2010. Me hace sentir tan bien conmigo después de cada escucha, también me hace cantarla, extiendo los brazos como lo hace ella en sus presentaciones incluso hago la parte de la cerrada de ojos de vez en cuando cuándo la escucho. Lol Es una canción muy hermosa y si siente lo mismo que ella te quiere hacer sentir, la amarás también. Amo su inusual voz y espero que esta rubiecita logrue lo que la Perrelli y Ernman no hicieron, un top 10 en la final!

07 AZERBAIJAN

SAFURA – DRIP DROP

Drip drop: is a mid-tempo R&B style pop song. Through the lyrics of the song, the singer questions if she can love her man anymore or if she should break up with him.

I like the song and it makes me recall to Beyoncé, but it’s too commercial that I feel she and her song are in the wrong place, she should be touring in USA and around the world, maybe if she wins she will.

Drip drop (drip drop, como hacen las lágrimas al caer, creo): Es una canción por al estilo R&B medio movida. A través de su letra, la cantante se cuestiona si ella puede amar no puede amar su hombre más o si debería romper con él de una vez.

Me gusta la canción pero me hace recordar a Beyoncé, pero es tan comercial que siento que tanto ella como su canción están en el lugar equivocado, ella debería estar de tour por Estados Unidos y el mundo, tal vez si gana lo hará.

08 UKRAINE

ALYOSHA – SWEET PEOPLE

Sweet people: is a rock ballad. The lyrics are a message of peace that the singer is sending out to all of us.

I love the message she is sending through the lyrics of her song, just for that she deserves to be in final. She has an amazing voice and her song worth a lot. I hope she can reach the final; she probably takes the place of Russia in this edition of ESC.

Sweet people (Gente dulce): Es una balada rock. La letra de la canción es un mensaje de paz que la cantante nos está enviando a todos nosotros.

Amo el mensaje que ella está enviando a través de la letra de su canción, sólo por eso merece estar en la final. Tiene una asombrosa voz y su canción lo vale mucho. Espero que pueda llegar a la final, probablemente tome el lugar de Rusia en esta edición de ESC.

09 THE NETHERLANDS

SIENEKE – IK BEN VERLIEFD (SHA-LA-LIE)

Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie) [I’m in love (sha-la-lie)]: is an up-tempo pop schlager song most notably featuring a street organ in the arrangement. Through the lyrics, the singer asks herself where she heard a certain song and it turns out that the person she is in love with is the reason why she forgets everything.

I like this song for more weird that could sound, but it’s really impossible she could make it, but who knows she could be the surprise of the night.

Ik ben venfiefd (sha-la-lie) [Estoy enamorada (sha-la-lie)] Es una canción por schlager moderna con un marcado órgano callejero en su arreglo. En su letra la cantante se pregunta dónde escuchó cierta canción y resulta que la persona de la que está enamorada es la razón por la que se olvida de todo.

Me gusta la canción por más raro que pueda sonar, pero esta complicado que pueda llegar a la final, pero quien sabe, podría ser la sorpresa de la noche.

10 ROMANIA

PAULA SELING & OVI – PLAYING WITH FIRE

Playing with fire is an up-tempo pop song with rock influences. Through the lyrics of the duet, the singers warn each other of their passionate but dangerous relationship, although there seems to be no serious intention to make it come to an end

Nice song. I’m almost sure they will make it, in spite they actually don’t have many voters in this semi, remember the main voters are in semi one. So they need to conquer the European viewers and audience that night.

Playing with fire (jugando con fuego): es una canción pop moderna con influencia de rock. La letra es sobre un duelo, los cantantes se alertan cada uno de lo apasionado pero peligroso de su relación, sin embargo parece ser no tener la sería intención de hacerla llegar a su final.

Buena canción. Estoy casi seguro que alcanzará la final a pesar que en realidad no tienen su grandes votantes en esta semifinal, recuerden que sus principales votantes están en la 1ra semifinal. Así que tendrán que conquistar a la audiencia y televidentes Europeos esa noche.

11 SLOVENIA

ANSAMBEL ŽLINDRA & KALAMARI – NARODNOZABAVNI ROCK

Narodnozabavni rock (Folk rock): mixes traditional folk music with rock music. The lyrics reflect this mixture and they tell why both music styles are so great

I think it is the weakest song of this semi, they don’t have nothing to do, not friends neighbours and others voting for them. Just put all their things on their luggage and take the train back to their home, sorry but it’s the truth.

Narodnozabavni rock (Folk rock): Mezcla de música tradicional con rock. La letra refleja esta mezcla de sonidos y cuentas porque ambos estilos musicales son tan geniales.

Creo que es la más floja de la canciones de esta semifinal, no tienen nada que hacer, no hay amigos, vecinos y otros votando por ellos. Sólo empaquen todas su cosas y tomen un tren de regreso a su casa, lo siento pero es la verdad.

12 IRELAND

NIAMH KAVANAGH – IT’S FOR YOU

It's for you: is a classic ballad, which has been described as "typically Irish". Through the lyrics, the singer tells that you have to believe in love to overcome times of sadness and that she cries and prays for those who suffer.

The former winner’s song, she is really amazing, her voice is one of the best of this year, a winner for winning again. I just hope she can reach the final, if she have been in first semi final there would not have been a problem, but Second semi is the toughest one, however she is the Singer, I love her and her song, I’m pretty sure she will be in final and maybe placing top 10.

It’s for you (Es por ti): Es una balada clásica, la cual ha sido descrita como “Típica irlandesa” En su letra la cantante cuenta que debemos creer en el amor para superar los momentos de tristeza y que ella pide y ruega por todos esos que sufren.

La canción de una ex ganadora, es realmente asombrosa, su voz es una de las mejores del año, una ganadora a ganar de nuevo. Solo espero que ella pueda llegar a la final, si hubiera estado en la final no hubiera habido problema, pero la segunda semifinal es la más dura, sin embargo ella es la Cantante, la amo a ella y su canción, estoy muy seguro que estará en la final y tal vez ocupando un lugar en el top 10.

13 BULGRAIA

MIRO – ANGEL SI TI

Angel si ti (You are an angel): is an up-tempo pop song with electronic influences. Through the lyrics, the singer tells someone to stay the same using the metaphore of an angel he compares the person to.

I like this electronic song! It makes me sing and dance when I listen to, but it is Romania or Bulgaria in one of the spots of the 10 qualifiers.

Angel si ti (Eres un ángel): Es una canción pop moderna con influencias electrónicas. En su letra, el cantante cuenta que debemos ser como somos usando la metáfora para comparar que las personas somos ángeles.

Me gusta esta canción electrónica! Me hace cantar y bailar cuando la escucho, pero o es Rumania o Bulgaria en uno de los lugares de los 10 clasificados.

14 CYPRUS

JON LILYGREEN & THE ISLANDERS – LIFE LOOKS BETTER IN SPRING

Life looks better in spring: is a mid-tempo guitar pop song. Through the lyrics of the break-up song, the singer tells about his hopes for a reunification.

Beautiful and touching song, it has an alike one in semi one, yeah.. Belgium, both are so emotional, I hope both be in final. Go Cyprus! ;)

Life looks better in spring (la vida parece mejor en primavera): Es una canción pop suave a guitarra. A través de su letra de rompimiento o separación, el cantante cuenta sobre sus esperanzas para un reencuentro.

Hermosa y conmovedora canción. Tiene una parecida en la primera semifinal, sí… Bélgica, ambas son tan emocionales, espero que lleguen a la final. ¡¡Vamos Chipre!! ;)

15 CROATIA

FEMINNEM – LAKO JE SVE

Lako je sve (Everything is easy): is a classic ballad. The lyrics are a declaration of love and the singers ask their lovers to forgive them a betrayal.

The strongest song from the FYRs, I love it in all the ways, they are so great, I hope they wins or at least be in top 10. They reach the final for votes or as wildcard; they have everything to do well in Oslo.

Lako je sve (todo es fácil): Es una balada clásica. La letra es una declaración de amor y las cantantes les piden a sus amados que las perdonen por su traición.

La más fuerte de las canciones de las Antiguas Repúblicas Yugoslavas, me encanta en todo sentido, son maravillosas, espero que ganen o que al menos queden en el top 10. Llegarán a la final por votos o como comodín; tienen todo para que les vaya bien en la final en Oslo.

16 GEORGIA

SOFIA NIZHARADZE – SHINE

Shine: is a classic ballad. The lyrics spread a message of hope telling the listeners to look ahead.

Another very well-made ballad, even there are a lots this year, almost all of them are very attractive at least for ballads lovers like me. Some people think is a boring contest this year, but I love it!

Shine (Brilla): Es una balada clásica. La letra comparte un mensaje de esperanza diciéndoles a los escuchas que hay que mirar adelante.

Otra balada muy bien hecha, a pesar de que hay muchas baladas este año, casi todas son muy llamativas, al menos para los amantes de las baladas. Algunos piensas que es un edición muy aburridora este año, pero la amo!! ;)

17 TURKEY

MANGA – WE COULD BE THE SAME

We could be the same is an up-tempo pop/rock song featuring various different styles. About the lyrics, the band has stated that they expected the listeners to find out what the song means. However, they revealed that the message of the song is the quest for a peaceful world where people live with love and faith.

Turkey never disappoints anybody. They really love and want to become the king of the contest, I think. Their song is really cool and a kind of freshy, for sure in final without any obstacle stopping their pass.

We could be the same (Podríamos ser iguales): Es una canción pop/rock moderna que presenta varios estilos musicales. Sobre la letra, la banda ha declarado que ellos esperaban que los escuchas encontraran el significado de la canción. Sin embargo, revelaron que el mensaje de la canción es la búsqueda de un mundo pacífico dónde la gente viva con fe y amor.

Turquía nunca decepciona a nadie. Realmente quieren convertirse en el rey del concurso, creo. Su canción es muy chévere y en cierto modo fresca, de seguro estará en la final sin ningún obstáculo que los detenga.

I’m gonna talk about the Second semi final rehearsals then or should I keep my mouth shut? Right now I’m gonna get ready to go to my afternoon class!
